Determining Proficiency Benchmarks

Hello! I am trying to understand if the below described functionality exists, and whether anyone can share their experience with using it? Basically I am looking to understand whether Eightfold can suggest a proficiency level benchmark for our required by role skills.

Calibrate Using "Market Insights"

For each role that has "Required-by-role" skills, you can use the AI to see the market standard:

  • Open a Specific Role: Click into a job profile (e.g., "Senior Financial Analyst").

  • Click "Calibrate with Market": Look for a button or toggle usually labeled Market Insights or External Benchmarking.

  • Review the Suggested Proficiency: Eightfold will show you a "Market Prevalence" score for each skill. It will suggest a proficiency level (e.g., Level 3) based on how that role is defined across millions of global profiles in their dataset.
  • Apply to All: You can often "Bulk Accept" these market-driven proficiency levels for all required skills in that role.

Hi @rfitzpatrick,  Based on what I can find in our product documentation, Market Insights does provide market/industry benchmarking for roles and skills (for example, skill prevalence and skill trends), and it provides recommended skills for roles, but I do not see a documented feature where Market Insights directly suggests (or bulk-applies) a proficiency level (e.g., “Level 3”) for each required-by-role skill inside a role calibration UI.

What is clearly documented for Market Insights:

  • Skill/role exploration with trends and prevalence (“presence/prevalence data”).
  • Benchmarking skill prevalence (company vs benchmark industry) as part of keeping a role library future-ready.
  • A workflow where you open a role and use a “recommended skills” experience (employee insights / benchmark industry / global fastest-rising) to add skills and improve Future Readiness.

What’s documented for proficiency levels:

  • In Roles Design, roles can include skills and proficiencies, but the documentation positions proficiency definition as something you do via role comparison (not via a “market calibrate” button).
  • In Skill Assessment, the “Required By Role” skills tab pulls skills from the role library, and benchmark proficiency is sourced from the role library/JIE (i.e., whatever proficiency benchmarks HR configured on the role).

So: the “Market Prevalence score → suggested proficiency level → bulk accept proficiencies” UX you described doesn’t appear to be an existing, documented capability today.

Closest equivalent: what you can do with Market Insights today

If your goal is “market-aligned calibration,” the documented path is more like:

  • Use Market Insights to review recommended skills for a role based on:
    • employee insights (if you’ve uploaded employee data),
    • benchmark industry,
    • global fastest-rising skills,
      then add/update skills accordingly.
  • Use role comparison in Roles Design to define proficiencies across role levels in a job family.

“Has anyone shared experience using AI to benchmark role skill proficiencies from market data?”

I did find internal product Q&A that lines up with your question, and it suggests this capability is not generally available as a standard feature today:

  • A Slack thread explicitly discusses customers asking about AI-generated skill proficiencies on roles and highlights that inferring proficiency is hard because “what good looks like” varies by company, job family, and level—and the response in that thread indicates it’s not something we do today (in that context).
  • Another Slack thread includes a direct Q: “Can Talent Design be used to help with inferring Job Profile proficiency?” and the answer given was “Not yet”, with mention that it’s on a later roadmap timeframe (2H ’26) and not a live feature.

So from what I can cite, I don’t have evidence of customers actively using a GA feature that benchmarks/sets role-skill proficiency levels from Market Insights and then bulk-applies them. I hope this is helpful.
