Historical tracking of Skills & Proficiency mapping changes

Hi! I raised the following product idea and your customer team answered this functionality is already available, can you walk me through it ?

Skills Intelligence & Role Design are our source of truth for skills and proficiency mappings linked to job codes. Today, changes can be reviewed through the Change Log, but there is no easy way to analyze changes over time, compare previous versions of mappings, or report on what has changed.

The current workaround is to regularly export data, store snapshots externally, and compare files manually. While feasible, this requires customers to build and maintain their own audit trail outside the platform.

We would like a simpler way to track historical changes, for example through either:

  • An exportable Change Log/report for skills and proficiency mappings including what changed, previous value vs new value, date of change & user who made the change, or
  • A built-in dashboard where Admin can select two dates (or versions) and compare skills and proficiency mappings for job codes, including additions, removals, and proficiency changes.

Hi @asingla, the functionality that exists today is primarily Calibration History / Change Log for Role Design changes, plus Skills Design Activity Log for taxonomy changes. It will help admins see what changed, when, and by whom, but it is not the same as a full exportable “compare two dates/versions” dashboard. The closest built-in capability is the audit/history view; for consolidated reporting over time, snapshots/exports are still the recommended workaround based on the support guidance I found.

1) For job-code skill/proficiency mappings: use Role Calibration History

This is the most relevant feature for your idea because skills + proficiencies are stored at the Role / Job Code level in Role Design.

How to access it

  1. Go to Talent Design.
  2. Open Roles / Role Design.
  3. Select the relevant role/job code from the role library.
  4. On the role page, click the three-dot / kebab menu in the top-right.
  5. Select Calibration History.

The history page shows a change log with details such as the change made, user email / changed by, and the date/time of change. It is intended to help admins identify the source and timing of manual or system-driven calibration changes.

What it can show

Calibration History tracks changes made to calibration data, including:

  • Manual edits or updates to a role or position
  • Auto-calibration changes for positions
  • Confirm calibration actions on a role

For your use case, this is where an admin would review changes to role calibration items such as skills and proficiency expectations tied to a job code.

Important caveat

This is best for reviewing the history of a specific role/job code. It is not currently a consolidated, exportable report across all roles/job codes, and it does not appear to provide a “select two dates and compare mappings” workflow.

2) For Skills Design taxonomy changes: use Skills Design Activity Log

If the question is about changes to the skills library/taxonomy itself — for example, a skill was added, edited, imported, or deleted — use the Skills Design Activity Log.

How to access it

  1. Go to Talent Design.
  2. Open the Skills tab / Skills Design.
  3. Open Activity Log.

The Activity Log lets admins view a record of changes to understand how the skills library has evolved over time. It can be filtered by:

  • Type
    • New Skill
    • Save/manual edit or delete
    • Import
  • User
  • Then click Apply filter.

This is useful for taxonomy governance, but it is separate from Role Design’s job-code-to-skill/proficiency mappings.

3) To compare current mappings across roles: use Role Comparison

If the goal is to compare skill/proficiency mappings across multiple current roles — for example, similar job codes in a job family — use Role Comparison.

How to access it

  1. Go to Talent Design > Roles.
  2. Select multiple roles from the role library.
  3. Click Compare roles.
  4. Review skills, job level/job family metadata, and proficiency settings side by side

Role Comparison supports comparing up to 10 roles at a time and lets admins view, add, delete, and update skills/proficiencies across those roles. It also has filters such as All, Common, and Other skills.

Important caveat

This compares roles as they exist now. It does not compare a role against its own prior version on two historical dates.

4) To export current role mappings: use Export Roles

For reporting or offline analysis, admins can export the current role library.

How to export

  1. Go to Talent Design > Roles.
  2. Click Export Roles.
  3. Choose Export all roles or Export filtered roles.
  4. If configured, select the desired export template.
  5. Download the CSV.

The default export can include fields such as role ID, title, skills, proficiencies, creation timestamp, last modified timestamp, confirmation status, and approval status.

This is useful for a current-state snapshot. If a customer needs a historical diff, the current best practice is still to keep periodic exports and compare them externally.

Bottom line

If the customer team said this is “already available,” they likely meant:

  • Calibration History for role/job-code calibration changes
  • Skills Design Activity Log for taxonomy changes
  • Role Comparison for side-by-side comparison of current roles
  • Role export for current-state snapshots

But the exact feature requested an exportable consolidated change report or a built-in dashboard to compare two historical dates/versions across job-code skill/proficiency mappings does not appear to be fully available today. Support previously stated there is no single in-product export for historical mapping changes and recommended regular exports/snapshot comparisons for governance reporting.
