Business Problem
Recruiters often want additional context when assessing internal candidates, particularly for career mobility and succession opportunities.
An employee's Career Interests can provide valuable insight into:
- Roles they aspire to move into
- Functions they are interested in exploring
- Internal mobility preferences
However, surfacing Career Interests directly in the TA interface previously created confusion because:
- Recruiters expected it to influence Match Scores.
- The information could not be searched or filtered.
- The additional profile data negatively impacted performance.
Proposed Solution
Introduce Career Interests as an optional, recruiter-controlled feature rather than a standard profile field.
Option 1: Search and Filter Only
Allow recruiters to:
- Filter candidates by Career Interests.
- Search Career Interests using keywords.
- Create talent pools based on Career Interest criteria.
Career Interests would remain completely separate from Match Scores.
Option 2: On-Demand Expansion
Rather than loading Career Interests for every candidate:
- Add a "Career Interests" tab or expandable section.
- Load data only when a recruiter clicks to view it.
- Maintain current page performance.
Option 3: Informational Badge
Display a simple badge such as:
Career Interests: Talent Acquisition Partner, Learning Consultant, HR Business Partner
Alongside a clearly visible note:
"Career Interests are employee-declared aspirations and do not influence Match Scores."
Expected Benefits
For Recruiters
- Better visibility of internal mobility aspirations.
- Easier identification of employees interested in specific career paths.
- Improved talent pooling and succession planning.
For Employees
- Increased visibility of career ambitions.
- Greater likelihood of being considered for relevant opportunities.
For Organisations
- Supports internal mobility strategies.
- Encourages career development conversations.
- Makes better use of data already maintained by employees.
Design Principles
To avoid the issues experienced previously:
✅ Career Interests should be filterable/searchable.
✅ Clear messaging should state that Career Interests do not impact Match Scores.
✅ Data should be loaded on demand to minimise performance impact.
✅ Feature should be configurable by customer.
Business Impact
Many organisations invest heavily in talent marketplaces and career development tools, but recruiters often cannot leverage employee career aspiration data effectively during hiring. Providing a lightweight, searchable and clearly separated Career Interest signal would help bridge Talent Management and Talent Acquisition while avoiding recruiter confusion and system performance concerns.
